This is the largest part we have had in the machine. This head is close to 1000 lbs. Big shout out to Hank Vander Meyden for once again bringing awesome Iscar tools to tackle this job modifying the injector ports. Also another shout out to Arthur Tucker and David Soares at CNC Custom Parts Manufacturing for walking me thru the Mazak North America mazatrol programming. We originally programmed these features in Fusion 360 but decided last minute to reprogram in Mazatrol. Mazatrol allowed for quick changes to speeds and feeds and an easy way to organize machinining priorities for each operation. Using Mazatrol for this part eliminated program transfer time that would have been needed with Fusion if changes would have been needed.
We are in the middle of a run of Tungsten again. We have learned a lot since the first time we machined it about 5 years ago! There is zero speeds and feeds data out there for machining tungsten. We are definitely pushing the limits of the tooling we are using. Thanks to Iscar Metals flash line 1/2”- 7 flute end mills we were able to finish the inside pocket of the housing with one end mill. We are also using the same but shorter 7 flute flash line endmill to mill the flats and chamfers on the smaller part. The flash line endmills are such a great value for such a workhorse! Big thanks to our Iscar Rep Hank Vander Meyden for always being willing to come up with solutions on all the crazy materials we work with! Stay tuned for some more Tungsten parts!
